CALL TO FEED THE HUNGRY CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW

"The 'Call to Feed the Hungry' is a new interfaith campaign tackling growing food insecurity across Texas. We aim to galvanize people of faith and conscience to partner with lawmakers, ensuring essential food programs—such as SNAP, school meals and more —remain adequately funded. Our goal is to empower a knowledgeable constituency of Texans to advocate effectively for these vital programs in the upcoming legislative session."

THREE PHASES OF THE CALL

  1. Education – We began the campaign by educating our members and partners about SNAP and recruiting them to sign up others

  2. Fall Media campaign – All of our members and partners share videos, testimonials, info sheets, and more on social media to sign up supporters

  3. Legislative advocacy – Ask those who have signed up to ‘opt in’ to the legislative campaign and contact their legislators in support of SNAP

CALL TO FEED THE HUNGRY SUNDAY - August 2, 2026

feedthepeopletoday.org

One day. One community. One voice.

Every day, millions of Texans rely on food assistance programs to help feed their families. As people of faith, we are called not only to care for our neighbors, but also to advocate for the systems that help them thrive.

On August 2, your church is invited to join congregations across Texas for a special Sunday dedicated to build a future where no family has to wonder where their next meal will come from. The sermon, readings, and conversation guide will center on one question: What does it mean to feed our neighbors today? Together, we will support SNAP and explore how our faith calls us to respond, and how each congregation can help create lasting change for families across our state.

WHAT: A special Sunday service focused on helping those in need

WHEN: Sunday, August 2, 2026

WHERE: At your church — every parish hosts their own Call to Feed the Hungry Sunday

WHO: All congregations across the Diocese of Texas

HOW: Attend worship, invite friends to hear the sermon, connect with your community

Why this matters?

Call to Feed the Hungry Sunday is an opportunity to educate our congregations about the essential role SNAP plays in feeding Texans facing hunger. SNAP feeds 90% of hungry Texans. Congregations, food pantries and food banks feed only 10% of hungry Texans. Those 10% are the most vulnerable so our work is essential. But we cannot fill the SNAP gap on our own. We need decision-makers to join us in ensuring that SNAP continues to play its role in food security for Texans.
